VIRTUAL 909 v.3 --------------- Enhanced 909-emulator for windows-based sequencing by Christopher List (Christopher_List@sonymusic.com) What It Is ---------- Virtual 909 is sequencing software for writing AND PERFORMING "modern electronic music". It has been designed from the ground up to emulate the simple sequencing interface of the late, great Roland 909. The 909 is a great machine for sequencing techno, house, etc. but it has it's drawbacks - especially for use as a live performance tool, because it's impossible to edit patterns and switch between patterns without stopping the sequencer. Virtual 909 has all the features I always wanted my 909 to have. It is much simpler than the fancy-shmany windows sequencers (like Cakewalk - which I used up 'til now) but it's simplicity is what makes it better for doing music which is based on synthetic rhythms and SOUND rather than "real" sound or "realistic" arrangement. If you have windows and midi equipment and aren't looking for something to use for sequencing for film or pop music, give it a try. I HIGHLY recommend reading the V909.WRI file after PKUNZIP-ing the software. Version .3 has many new features, these include - * Scrollable 707-type view (big improvement) * The program doesn't crash all the time (I hope) * "Copy Track" function * Song and pattern chain-to information is saved * Ability to save songs in Standard MIDI file format (YEAH!) * Ability to control V909 from a PC-1600 or Fadermaster * Online Help Unfortunately, V.3 cannot read your V.2 files...
